2018 Summer of Zen Scholarship: official rules

Award Amount: One (1) winner will receive a check for $500.00 made payable to the winner (or his/her agent) to be used to offset post-secondary education expenses.

Eligibility:  The 2018 Summer of Zen Scholarship (“contest”) is only open to current U.S. residents who will be enrolled in grades 9 through 12, or home-school equivalent, during the 2018-19 school year. Contest participants must be at least 13 years of age at the time of entry. The contest and entrants’ participation is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Void where prohibited. Participation constitutes entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to these Official Rules and Sponsor’s decisions, which are final and binding in all matters related to the Contest.

Data Collection: By entering the contest, Entrant consents to all necessary rights for the data collection, sharing and use resulting from Entrant’s participation in the contest, as provided in Sponsor’s Privacy Policy.

Promotion Period: The Contest commences April 3, 2018 and ends on August 31, 2018 at 11:59 PM EST (The Promotion Period).

How to Enter:  During the Promotion Period, Entrant must complete an official entry form and attach an original essay in English, containing no more than 300 words responding to the following prompt: Describe your ideal day of zen. What would you do? Where would you go, and who would you go with? Why does this day feel 'zen' to you?  The work must be the original work of the entrant. All essays become property of the Sponsor and will not be returned. Only one entry is permitted per person during the Promotion Period.

Selection of Winners: On or about September 10, 2018, the Zen Admissions team will select one (1) winner based on the following criteria: Creativity (25%), Originality (25%), Writing ability (25%), and Overall Excellence (25%).

Notification of Winner: The winner will be notified, via email, on or about September 15, 2018. In addition, all entrants not selected as winners will be notified by email once the winning selection has been made.

Release: By participating or accepting an award, Entrants agree that the Sponsor may, without limitation, or further compensation or notice, use his or her submitted essay, first name, and state of residence. Entrants release and hold harmless the Sponsor, its officers, directors, and employees, from any claims of liability or personal injury, property damage, or loss of any kind arising directly or indirectly from acceptance, possession, or use of the award, participation in this contest, or any award-related activities.
